About the Artist
Trinity Mutchler was born and raised near Keystone, South Dakota. She has always loved to draw since she was three and her passion for art has been growing ever since. Trinity was mostly self-taught all the way up until she came to Black Hills State University in 2022. It was during this time that she really dove into all the details of art and became the artist that she is today. It was also during this time she found a love for photography and more specifically, taking photos of sheet ghosts in rural areas and eventually painting them. Trinity will be graduating from BHSU with a Studio Art degree and a minor in Photography in the Fall of 2026.
Artist Statement
Art has always felt right to me. Regardless of anything else happening in my life I always ended up creating art. There's a gentle sense of belonging that I feel while I work on my pieces and it has always been comforting to me. I create art purely because I enjoy the act of putting something from my brain into a physical piece. More often than not I tend to begin my pieces my drawing them in digital form. I go through different ideas, colors, and textures before sitting down and sketching them out on my canvas of choice. This allows me to really think about how I use my space in the best way possible and to ensure the colors are what I was aiming for. I enjoy using the majority of my own sketches and photography as references for most my work. It's a good way to keep close to my original ideas and I have a lot of fun while I do so.
